Gill D. Anderson’s “The Storm Within: Still Waters Run Deep” is a gripping murder mystery. It beckons readers to delve deeper, revealing that not everything is as it appears on the surface. Different people boarded the Ocean Breeze, a luxurious cruise, for various reasons. Belinda and Richard were there to save their marriage. Alex and Kayla boarded the cruise to enjoy their young love. Jake was the ambitious cruise director, who wanted to prove his worth. However, a few people had sinister reasons, like Tia and Tony were there to extort money from unsuspecting men. Therefore, when Tia is found dead in her cabin, the list of suspects gets quite difficult to sort through.
In her final moments, her heart felt crushed by the weight of realisation: the storm outside would pass, yet the storm within her had left her battered and broken, lost to the void forever.

Gill Anderson’s signature writing style of exploring complex characters with a complicated past shines through in The Storm Within beautifully. No character is ever a side character in her books, and no character is all evil. This makes her characters relatable. While Richard is struggling with a mid-life crisis of sorts, Kayla is trying to make sense of her abusive relationship with Alex. Claire’s ‘jealousy in love’ is stripping away her ability to observe the real life, and Vincent’s ‘jealousy in career’ is turning him into an evil conspirator. Each character’s unique issue makes them memorable, and this gets the readers hooked to the plot. As a reader, I was invested in each character’s distinctive storyline.
Kayla observed her ever changing expressions in the mirror as she oscillated between rage and feeling as though she deserved it.

The author’s writing is sometimes reminiscent of a kind therapist. There is always an understanding that flows through her words, even when she is describing a certain evil. The backdrop of magnificent sunny locations was another stroke of genius; Naples, Florence, Cannes, etc, enthralled the traveler in me while the gripping plot and intriguing characters kept me on the edge of my seat. Packed with sex, betrayal, ambition, jealousy and everything in between, The Storm Within by Gill D Anderson is a delightful treat for Mystery readers. I highly recommend this book to the book lovers who enjoy a well-written thriller.
Richard’s inflated ego did not allow him to consider that he looked nothing like his wedding photo either. Little did he know that his double standards would eventually be his downfall.
