Naomi is the second book in Maggie Trilogy by Mya O’Malley. The author has left breadcrumbs all over the book to help the readers, who are unfamiliar with her previous book, to not feel left out of the plot. Naomi, the protagonist, after helping the souls of Maggie and Ryan to find peace, is finally breathing a sigh of relief. She is excited about her future with her fiance, Bryce, and his adorable daughter, Holly. However, the paranormal beings are not done with her yet. The ghost of her ex-boyfriend (Nick), who was no angel when he was alive, has crawled into her life with apparently a sole purpose of tormenting her. Although Nick is throwing her around (literally), filling her brain with the most disturbing images and thoughts, Naomi is sure that his being here is an indication that he wishes to seek a closure with his death. According to Naomi, perhaps Nick did not die behind the bars due to “drug overdose.” Instead, there was a foul play that resulted in his death. If Naomi can solve the mystery behind his death, Nick just might leave her alone.
Naomi by Mya O’Malley is a beautiful fusion of paranormal and thriller genres. Both the genres are well-executed and are amusingly intriguing. Romance is definitely at the foundation of the book and it makes its appearance to switch the mood from dark to light and from melancholy to serene. The primary element of the book remained paranormal, and the discussion among the characters regarding life after death is thought-provoking. The author has done a marvelous job of writing a paranormal fiction that is filled with various realistic characters, conversations, and emotions. Bryce’s conflicting emotions between being with his fiancee and protecting his child by keeping her away from Naomi are as real as it gets. The way Naomi became enveloped in an ever-consuming paranoia is another example of how much effort the author has put into writing this engaging book.
I would recommend this book to the readers who enjoy a perfect blend of romance, paranormal, and thriller genres.
