I have reviewed Un-Adoptable – Faith Beyond Foster Care, Janelle Molony for Reader’s Favorite.

In Un-Adoptable – Faith Beyond Foster Care, Janelle Molony shares an unfiltered part of her life that started after she and her husband, Ryan, decided to adopt a child. While some of her issues with the adoption process appeared completely normal, a lot of protocols did not sound acceptable. The adoption agency investigated the past and the present of Ryan and Janelle with a fine-tooth-comb. Yet, they failed miserably in sharing even the right age of Steven. When the previous foster home of the seven-year-old Steven, his own extended family, could not (or would not) take care of him, the agency assigned the child to Ryan and Janelle.
Unfortunately, as foster parents, we were not granted full rights to manage his medical care.
This meant that we could not rightfully take him off the medications he was being prescribed. We could not access his prior medical records outside of what the social worker initially told us. And we had to get permission from a judge to make any changes or additions to his treatment plans. The red tape was thick.

One look at Steven was all it took for Ryan to fall in love with the child. Nevertheless, Janelle did not share the same level of affection instantly. At the time, they did not know the level of issues Steven had. ADHD, Reactive Attachment Disorder, food insecurity, visual processing disorder are among a long list of the issues that Steven was struggling with. Even so, as foster parents, they “were not granted full legal rights to manage his medical care.”
I struggled with post-adoption depression and ended up with my own Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder from the things he put me through.
Sometimes I even hated him. But I never gave up on him.

Janelle Molony’s frustration seeps through each word of Un-Adoptable – Faith Beyond Foster Care. It takes superhuman strength to take care of a child whose brutal past has left him scarred for life. Or, perhaps, all it takes is an unwavering faith in God. “Parents who studied their children instead of fearing or judging became vastly equipped to raise them successfully.” Indeed, vastly equipped she had become! The audience would commend Janelle Molony for sharing her darkest moments and thoughts as a parent. Undoubtedly, Un-Adoptable – Faith Beyond Foster Care by Janelle Molony would prepare the future adoptive parents for the worst.
Now we had food insecurity, layered with regression, layered further with an attachment disorder. The digestive problems would continue for a while.
“Sweetie, when did you learn to trust me?” Our recent conversation continued. I thought I could get some insight for this book.
Steven replied, “Yesterday.”
So much for that.
