The Final Weekend: A Stoned Tale

Written by Neal Cassidy, The Final Weekend: A Stoned Tale allows the readers an entry into the lives of a group of college friends (Harry, Justin, Clarence, Trent), their weed dealer (Shroeder) and his girlfriend, their professor (Goodkat), two best friends (Courtney and Ling-Ling), and the Grandma. With the boys entering into their adult lives, their bachelor pad is taking its last breaths. Instead of whining about the imminent change, the boys decide to celebrate their last weekend with weed, alcohol, girls, pranks, and fun stories.

I told the guys that I’d been escorted out, but a video that appeared online the next day showed I’d been “escorted” out a window.

Ling-Ling has had a crush on Justin since forever. With Justin’s impending departure, this weekend might be her last chance to make a move. Unbeknownst to her, the same thoughts are running in Justin’s head as well. The fate of Courtney and Harry, who have been hooking up many times in the past, would also depend on this last weekend. Amidst the romance and beer skittles, a sign with the writing “you think you have time” keeps making an appearance. Is it just ordinary writing or a warning from the universe?

“They took five photos on the first moon landing and every time we go to the bathroom you take seventeen.”

The rib-tickling conversations of boys range from the excitement over “Chilled toiler paper” to “If you cut holes into a net, there are fewer holes than before.” As the reader navigates through the scenes of the guys jerking off and thinking of having meaningless sex, their pranks provide comic relief. Trent’s inability to remain employed at any job, his stupid remarks, and his blowup doll are the most entertaining aspects of The Final Weekend: A Stoned Tale. Courtney and the Grandma are another hard to miss characters in the story. Their witty retorts cannot go unnoticed.

“Everything was cool until she said, ‘Daddy, please pass the salt,’ and both her father and I reached for it.”

Court reminds me of our bitch roommates, and her putting jalapeno juice on all of their vibrators the day we moved out.
