I have reviewed The Society by C.G. Abbot for Reader’s Favorite.
The Society by C.G. Abbot, the first in Elizabeth Grant Thrillers series, unveils a shocking conspiracy led by a group of influential and powerful white supremacists fanatics about shoving their agenda down the throats of everybody in the US. The group worked under the title of The Society for a Restored America and carried out their unlawful acts silently. Little did they know that an apparently harmless woman named Elizabeth Grant would turn out to be their worst nightmare. Unaware of her significance, Elizabeth was suffering from the loss of her best friend, Loralie. Seven years ago, on a fateful night, Loralie went missing, never to be found. Strangely enough, the same night, Elizabeth had a vision of a “beaten and bloody Loralie.” Although the image was as clear as daylight, the terrified Elizabeth refused to accept her “gift.” The entanglement of her life with the most daunting conspiracy in the US, however, compelled her to utilize her vision for two reasons. The first was to bring justice to her missing friend. The second, and the most important one, was to save her country from fatal parasites intent on re-introducing slavery, among other disdainful acts.
The night Loralie went missing was the night she swore she saw a vision of Loralile in her bedroom in Denver, Colorado. An image of a beaten and bloody Loralie, who was physically in Cyprus hundreds of miles away, appeared right there in her bedroom, frantically reaching out to her.

The gradual shift of The Society from Elizabeth’s personal tragedy to an outrageous conspiracy was astonishing. The outrageous speech of the General of The Society for a Restored America gave a glimpse into the racist mindset that justifies their evil agenda with an air of superiority. While the paranormal element plays an important role in the novel, C.G. Abbot, the author, ensures that it never overshadows the main plot of The Society. The protagonist, Elizabeth, took her time in coming out of her shell and, mostly, appeared to be only slightly more than an innocent and overwhelmed heroine; these are the very qualities that made her all the more relatable. At the same time, one of the side characters, Malcolm Alexander brought l’air d’autorité since the moment he made an appearance in the plot.
It was amazing how susceptible the majority of people were to propaganda — cattle wanting to be herded so long as it fed their anger or insecurity.

The nail-biting events, unimaginable twists, and complex side characters concocted a cliffhanger worthy of a suspense lover’s time. With the title bringing a promise of more novels in Elizabeth Grant Thrillers series, The Society by C.G. Abbot is a treat for the readers who enjoy political thrillers.
