No More Terrible Dates by Kate O’Keeffe

Twenty-five-year-old Darcy Evans had a lot of things working in her favor. She had two best friends: Sophie and Erin. She was a personal assistant to a celebrity. Although her boss, Larissa Monroe, had some crazy viewpoints, Darcy knew how to manipulate her. Despite the positives, one aspect of her life always knocked her out: her dating life. To say that she had a bad dating record would be the understatement of the year. Therefore, her friends came up with “The No More Bad Dates Pact.”

Under the No More Bad Dates Pact rules, once one of us has met a guy we want to date, we go on an Initial Meeting over a cup of coffee. If things go well, the guy then gets vetted by the other two Pact members to weed out the undesirables. Then, and only then, can a first date can take place.”

Just when she thought her life was back on track, her boss, Larissa, decided to open an art gallery. Indeed, this meant that Darcy’s workload would increase. However, her misfortune didn’t stop there. For the photographer, Larissa selected Alex Walsh — a guy that Darcy hated since she was fourteen years old. So, she began hatching plans to persuade Larissa to find another photographer or convince Alex to not accept this opportunity.

She pouts, her already plumped-up lips looking like they could be used as flotation devices. Larissa Monroe would have come in very handy on the Titanic.

No More Terrible Dates by Kate O’Keeffe is an entertaining romantic comedy. Larissa’s quirks are the main attraction of the plot. If I were to imitate her style, I would say Larissa has a magnificent aura that entices the readers to read on. Kate O’Keeffe has, thankfully, stayed far away from the popular practice of making guys drool over the heroine’s physical appearance. Darcy is more than her looks. She is a romantic, but romance is not the only thing on her mind. She is organized, witty, and focused.

But that all changed when she landed a role alongside heartthrob Todd Milson in the surprise rom com hit He’s So Not My Type. They fell in love and married, had a genetically blessed daughter they called Monday for reasons unknown (she was born on a Tuesday), and then promptly divorced before the baby even uttered her first word. All very Hollywood.

Besides breathing lives into amazing characters, Kate O’Keeffe has woven conflicting emotions, engaging conversations, and comic moments that hold the readers till the end. The story progresses at a beautiful pace, which is neither too rushed nor too slow. The author has done a great job of balancing the emotions of the characters enough to save the story from becoming a mushy romance novel. No More Terrible Dates – A romantic comedy of love, friendship… and tea by Kate O’Keeffe is a perfect chick-lit to captivate and entertain the readers.

“You are truly a valued member of our family. Here.” She presses a unanyo into his hand.

He looks down at it, clearly unsure how to respond to being given a clump of twigs. “Err, thanks for the, ah, gift. I’ll go get on with these.” Jospeh’s eyes darted around the room. He’ll work out how these things go. You accept whatever thing Larissa gives you and act grateful. Then she’s happy.
