Inspiration Comes in All Shapes and Sizes

I have discovered that inspiration lies right in front of us if only we really open our eyes. Thankfully, every now and then my eyes decide to look around and observe the life.

1. Inspiration for Happiness – One day, as I boarded my office cab, I was quite irritated with many things. Sun light was too harsh and entering into the cab to fall on my hands. I didn’t wish to be tanned, but sun didn’t seem bothered to respect my wish. AC of the cab was not doing any favors to control the heat. To add to my annoyance, the driver was opening the window because he was feeling sleepy in AC. I played my favorite song on my phone, but even that couldn’t help lift my mood. Suddenly, my eyes fell on a homeless people sitting on the sidewalk. They had such big and bright smiles on their faces, as if they had received a treasure. In that very moment, I felt both inspired and ashamed. Here I was, sitting inside an AC cab and still feeling dead while there were many homeless people baking in the sun and yet smiling brighter than a star-lit night. I realized that I need to treasure what I have and not focus on what I should be having. This may sound dramatic, but at that very moment, all my irritation went out my driver’s open window 😉

2. Inspiration to Respect your Job – Everyone, who has read my posts, would know my tendency to cry about how unfulfilled I feel at my job. I hate spending such long hours staring the codes to find and fix bugs. I would whine for hours about the fact that I wish to quit and do something else. However, when I look at my maid, I realize that I am fortunate to have a job that offers many perks that many don’t have. My maid is in her late fifties. She has gotten two of her daughters married and is taking care of her kids alone. She cooks and cleans in many houses. Her day starts at 6 am and ends at 10 pm. In the afternoon, she gets a break of only two hours. I get weekends off while she gets none. She is working all day, every day. Although I do not love my job, I have learnt to respect the fact that I have a job where I sit in an air conditioned ODC and get two days off, every week.

3. Inspiration for Selfless Love – Some readers would laugh, but I feel overwhelmed and inspired by the selfless love of my puppies and my family. Awful combination, but my puppies are an integral part of the family so giving them same importance as other invaluable members of my world shouldn’t sound bizarre. When I feel that there is no love, I turn my focus towards the lovely people who have showered — and continue to shower — their selfless love on me all their lives.

4. Inspiration for Ageless Pursuit of your Dreams – Well, there have been many people whose brave career choices touched me and blazed my heart with immense hope of "anything is possible" theory. Recently, I have been inspired by Corinne Rodrigues, the founder of Write Tribe. She is one of the most daring people I have had the honor of coming across. Other than her, Pushpendra Mehta, the author of The Suitable Inheritor, inspired me to push my limits in the pursuit of my dreams. Both his book and his interview helped me in being hopeful of the future.

5. Inspiration for Keeping up with Fashion – My mom is my role model in this category. Many times, I hesitate in trying the latest fashion trends but not my mom. Even in her age, she tries everything that attracts her heart. The best part is that she always manages to look graceful. She is the one who encourages me to try whatever pleases me and remain in-ttend.

I am eager to know what inspires you to remain upbeat. Let’s inspire one another.

P.S. I am contributing this post to the amazing Write Tribe’s Festival of Words.

  9. Hi, Corinne journey and love for writing is very inspiring. The smallest things inspire me, be it a smile, a super successful person vanquishing poverty or the child smiling at the traffic signal despite having such a tough life. One of my first blog posts was on that, way back in 2008.

    1. Very well said. The problem, today, is that we tend to believe that money can eliminate all the problems of our lives. However, the simple truth remains that money cannot buy happiness while a simple smile can inspire us to move mountains.

      1. Agree to that. Though money can buy lot of things, happiness is simple. Sharing this post written way back in 2008 and do overlook the terrible language at that time:

If you read my blog, most of my posts are themed on this one idea. Everyday inspiration and I can’t agree more with you. I do get upset about things but I also practice the art of finding the silver lining. Good one, Ankita.
